Three 25-Lappers At New Castle To Honor 75-Year Celebration Of Midget Auto Racing

The United States Auto Club and race organizer Don Kenyon have agreed to restructure Wednesday night?s regional racing program at the Mount Lawn Speedway to incorporate three 25-lap features instead of the traditional 30-lappers. The reason is to salute the 75-year history of organized Midget Auto Racing, which officially began June 4, 1933 at Hughes Stadium in Sacramento, Calif.

A total of 75 feature laps are now slated for the Regional, Kenyon and Indiana Ford Focus Midgets at the 3/10-mile paved oval which opened its gates in June of 1935.

The first USAC event ever held at Mount Lawn took place in 1997, a 40-lap Midget race won by Californian Robby Flock.

Ironically, Mel Kenyon, the brother of race organizer Don Kenyon, was also born in 1933 and recently celebrated his 75th birthday! Mel is the winningest driver in USAC National Midget racing history with 111 feature triumphs to his credit.
