Stellar Music Lineup In May At Indianapolis Motor Speedway

Chevelle, Sum 41, OK Go among acts joining Stone Temple Pilots during Indy 500

INDIANAPOLIS, Tuesday, April 22, 2008 – The lineup at the 2008 Indianapolis 500 is loaded with talent – both on track and on stage.

A diverse mix of national and regional musical talent and genres – including alternative rock, punk rock, adult contemporary and modern rock – will perform during major event days at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway from Indianapolis Star Opening Day, Sunday, May 4, to Race Day, Sunday, May 25.

Multi-platinum Epic recording artists Chevelle will kick off an exciting first weekend of qualifications with a display of heavy alternative rock from 6-7 p.m. on “Fast Friday,” May 9. Modern rock quintet “The Bravery”
will bookend the weekend with live entertainment from 3-4:15 p.m. on Sunday, May 11.

The Coke Zero Stage will be particularly busy on Pole Day, May 10 and Coke Zero 500 College Fest/Third Day Qualifications, May 17, as three acts will entertain fans each day: DJ Orion, Ludo and Yellowcard on Pole Day, and Forever the Sickest Kids, OK Go and Sum 41 on Coke Zero 500 College Fest.

Island recording artists Sum 41 hit the big time in 2001 with its first hit full-length album, “All Killer No Filler,” which spawned the No. 1 single “Fat Lip.” Yellowcard has developed a legion of fans for its punk rock sound since the 2004 release of its double-platinum album “Ocean Avenue.”

OK Go made a name for itself with the entertaining video for the hit song “Here It Goes Again,” in which the band danced on a series of treadmills. The band has two major-label albums: 2002’s “OK Go” and 2005’s “Oh No.”

Headlining the 2008 Indianapolis 500 musical lineup will be the performance by alternative rock legends Stone Temple Pilots, which will bring its reunion tour to the Speedway on Miller Lite Carb Day, Friday, May 23. It will be an appropriate start to a high-energy Memorial Day weekend in Indianapolis leading up to the 92nd running of “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing” at 1 p.m. (ET) Sunday, May 25.

All acts except for Stone Temple Pilots will perform on the Coke Zero Stage, located in the IMS Pagoda Plaza directly behind the Bombardier Learjet Pagoda. Stone Temple Pilots will play on the Miller Lite Stage, located behind the Hall of Fame Museum.

All concerts are free with the price of admission to the IMS grounds for the day. Tickets for all qualifying and practice days are general admission, $10 for qualifying and $5 for practice.

Admission to the grounds for all Miller Lite Carb Day activities – including the final practice for the Indianapolis 500 starting field, Firestone Freedom 100 race, Checkers/Rally’s Pit Stop Challenge and Stone Temple Pilots concert – is just $10.
