Raikkonen Takes Fastest Friday Practice Time In Bahrain

SAKIR, Bahrain- Proving that he still is a force to
be reckoned with, Kimi Raikkonen after a slow first session, took an advantage
of recording a 1:34:154 fastest lap in the second session of Friday practice
for Sunday’s Grand Prix of Bahrain at Sakir.

Rakikkonen himself set a time that was just three
tenths quicker than Mark Webber, who certainly needs to improve having a
heartbreaking last two races. Most of the teams throughout the entire day were
monitoring their cooling systems as the heat of the desert began to make car manufacturers
worry about how warm the track will become race day.

While Raikkonen encountered the fastest time of the
day, the first session was a totally different animal as the Ferrari team
dominated the session, but it turned out that Felipe Massa was the fastest of
the session, right ahead of Fernando Alonso, his teammate, with a time of 1: 34:487,
followed by Nico Rosberg in his Mercedes. For new test driver Heikki Kovalainen
of Caterham, who tested the new development parts as the official test driver
in the first session. The idea worked well because in this session, the
Caterhams were now quicker than the Marussias by over a second, while Rodolfo
Gonzalez, the reserve driver for Marussia, found himself making things worse
for the team as he only completed seven laps.

With the second session later in the day, the heat
began to make the temperatures higher than normal as when the tires started to
wear out, Massa was the first victim of a shunt, flying wide at turn seven as
he lost the car at high speed. Estaban Guttierrez did not make any things
better for himself as he ran into Caterham driver Charles Pic by going too wide
and running right into Pic’s front wing
with his front left tire, giving Gutierrez a puncture and sending the Sauber
driver back to the pits.
