Levi Jones Thrashes USAC Field At Terre Haute

Terre Haute, Ind. – Levi Jones soundly thrashed a potent USAC Sprint Car Series field at Terre Haute’s Action Track to win the 39th annual First Financial Bank “Tony Hulman Classic.” The winner led all 30 laps of the feature race.

Performing in front of a large crowd on a warm Thursday evening, Jones drove the meticulously-prepared Tony Stewart Racing/Chevy-Bass Pro Shops/Maxim/Kistler Chevy to victory. And he became the first repeat winner of the “Tony Hulman Classic” since the race made its debut 18 years ago.

Action Promotions, led by Mike King, Indy driver Davey Hamilton, Brian Dorsett and Chris Novotny, presented USAC’s plucky drivers with a well-prepared race track much to their delight.

“Starting on the pole is where you want to be,” Jones said. “We had a great race car all night and things went our way. This is my favorite track and I just love to win here in front of my hometown friends, who have supported me forever.”

Bryan Clauson grabbed second after a see-saw battle with Jesse Hockett, who ended up in third place.

Said Clauson about the race, “We had a good run, even though we lost a sway bar with 10 to go. We let Levi (Jones) get away from us and we couldn’t get back up to him. I am really proud of my team.”

Fourth and fifth places went to Jerry Coons Jr. and Chris Windom.

The second five finishers were Dave Darland, who advanced from the rear of the field, Jeff Bland, fast qualifier Hunter Schuerenberg, Billy Boat, and Brad Sweet.

Heat winners were Windom, Jon Stanbrough, Jones and Darren Hagen. Bland took the 12-lap semi-feature.
