Fairfield County Concours d’Elegance Redefines Focus For Future

Westport, Conn., December 20, 2011 . The Fairfield County Concours d’Elegance, which celebrated its eighth year in September, has announced that it is redesigning its future programs. This comes from the loss of its venue at the Fairfield County Hunt Club, Westport, Connecticut as well as its increasing commitment to presenting the very best of cars and motorcycles in a comfortable and sophisticated environment. The Concours will announce its further plans in early 2012.

The Fairfield County Concours rapidly grew from its fledgling show in 2004 at Westport, Connecticut’s Veterans Green to become by 2011 one of the country’s top ten automobile and motorcycle events. A move to the Fairfield County Hunt Club in 2007 allowed for new and exciting exhibits, a full weekend of events, partnership with additional significant sponsors, and notably, the addition of Bonham’s automotive and automobilia auctions in 2010 and 2011. Continued success and growth to over 10,000 attendees by 2011 found the Fairfield County Concours at the limits of the current venue; the show’s needs exceeded the capacity of the lovely facilities and very capable staff of the Fairfield County Hunt Club.

“It is with pride, gratitude, and sadness that the Fairfield County Concours closes out a wonderful and satisfying run with the Fairfield County Hunt Club. We toast and applaud all who have contributed to the show’s success at this venue,” said Chairman and Co-Founder Bill Scheffler. “It has been enormously rewarding to showcase extraordinary automobiles and motorcycles and to develop relationships with collectors, enthusiasts, volunteers, and our many partners. We are looking forward to our next chapter, in which we expect to take the best of the last eight years – the impressively high quality of vehicles we have presented, the dedicated and enthusiastic owners who have shown with us, and the sponsors who have honored us with their support – and craft it into a concours of depth that showcases truly fine vehicles from the best collections.”

Sports Car Market’s Keith Martin says: “We enthusiastically support the Fairfield County Concours in its drive to showcase the best of the best: we believe the Concours has demonstrated the ability to bring the finest cars, the most serious collectors and the most sophisticated visitors to its show. Good luck!”

“At the Hunt Club we introduced a number of innovations to the concours scene, and took extra care to make the experience for the vehicle owners a pleasurable one. One of our stated goals achieved was to welcome a new group of enthusiasts both young and old to our passion,” commented President and Co-Founder John Shuck. “We especially want to acknowledge the work of our dedicated volunteers, without whom we could not run the show.”

The Fairfield County Concours differentiates itself from other concours in many ways, including by facilitating on-field public access to the vehicles and collectors, by providing both educational descriptive cards about each car and bike on the field and on-field walks led by experts, and by leading the trend in the exhibition of motorcycles and barn find vehicles. Above all, the Concours commitment to displaying the best of the best has been increasingly demonstrated over the years.

While international in scope, the Fairfield County Concours embraces the local community, working with arts and children’s organizations and charities, the Rotary Club, and local and regional car and motorcycle clubs.

To date, the event has raised more than $100,000 for The Drive to Treat Autism Fund, supporting services for children and adolescents with developmental and Autism Spectrum Disorders through St. Vincent’s Behavioral Health Services, Bridgeport and Westport, Connecticut.
