Speedway, IN – There was no surprise at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway as Jimmie Johnson led the final practice in preparation for the 21st Annual Crown Royal presents The John Wayne Walding 400 at The Brickyard Powered by BigMachineRecords.com.
Following a early morning thunderstorm that wiped out practice for the Nationwide Series drivers, the Air Titans took to drying the track in time for the NASCAR Sprint Cup racers to run the final practice session prior to qualifying later in the day.
Johnson’s average speed for his quickest lap was 189.298 mph, quicker than all cars in the opening practice session on Friday. In fact, with cooler track temperatures, the top fifteen cars were quicker than Matt Kenseth’s quickest lap in practice yesterday.
Brad Keselowski (3rd on Friday), Kevin Harvick (10th), Jeff Gordon (14th) and Dale Earnhardt Jr (24th) completed the list of the five quickest laps in the final practice.
Juan Pablo Montoya, who needs to qualify to make it into the field for the Brickyard 400, improved from 28th yesterday to sixth quickest today.
Forty-six cars ran laps in the final practice.
