Harvick Wins Brickyard Pole

Speedway, IN – Kevin Harvick swept the qualifying rounds and scored the pole for The Crown Royal presents The John Wayne Walding 400 at The Brickyard Powered by BigMachineRecords.com.

Harvick’s run scored him a series leading fourth Coor’s Light Pole Award this season and second pole at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

The Stewart-Haas driver and 2003 Brickyard 400 champion turned a lap in 47.753 seconds at 188.472 mph in his Jimmy Johns sponsored Chevrolet to move to the top of the new Indianapolis Motor Speedway pylon early in the final round and none of the other eleven drivers running the session were able to knock him off.

Four-time Brickyard 400 winner Jeff Gordon was second followed by Brad Keselowski and defending race winner Ryan Newman. Starting in row three on Sunday will be Brian Vickers and two-time Brickyard 400 winner Tony Stewart. Kurt Busch and Juan Pablo Montoya will start in row four while Joey Logano and Kasey Kahne will roll off the grid in row five.

Other than Harvick, Gordon was the only driver to break the 48 second barrier when the Hendrick Motorsports driver ran a lap in 47.931 seconds in his Axalta Chevrolet.

Harvick won the opening round of qualifying with a track record breaking lap of 188.889 mph and round two with a lap of 188.281 mph.

Bobby Labonte, the only driver other than Gordon to run all previous Brickyard 400 events, will use the past champions provisional to race on Sunday.

Brett Moffitt, David Stremme and Matt Crafton failed to qualify for the race.

The Crown Royal presents The John Wayne Walding 400 at The Brickyard is scheduled to see the green flag fly on Sunday, July 27th at 1:00pm eastern.
