Vettel Crushes Grid; Wins By 30 Seconds In Abu Dhabi

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates- It had only been a week before when Sebastian Vettel won
his fourth world championship, but on Sunday evening at the Abu Dhabi Grand
Prix race at the Yas Marina circuit, the German acted that his championship was
still up for grabs as the 26 year old took the lead at the start and never let go,
winning the race by a staggering 30.8 seconds ahead of teammate Mark Webber.
Mercedes pilot Nico Rosberg took third.

“It is incredible,”
Vettel beamed afterwards. “Thanks to all the fans, so many people, so many German
flags. And to get so much support, and from Red Bull and hopefully more can be
for the next years. But the car was brilliant, absolutely brilliant.”

The start
was really the only moment where everyone was next to Vettel, but the German
managed to take the lead on the first lap and begin to extend his lead from the
rest of the grid. The only retirement of the race occurred on the same opening
lap as Kimi Raikkonen, who after a penalty, started the race from the last slot
on the grid, ran into the side of Caterham’s Guido Van De Garde, damaging his
rear front suspension.

Vettel by
lap 14, already established a 26 second lead and even after the two pit stops
that were required for him to do, Vettel still managed to increase his lead to
finish just over 30 seconds despite having to go around lapped cars.

Romain
Grosjean led the rest of the grid in his Lotus, finishing in fourth, while
Fernando Alonso was fifth. Force India drivers Paul di Resta and Adrian Sutil
finished in two point positions for the team, taking sixth and tenth,
respectively. Lewis Hamilton finished in
seventh, while Massa was eighth in his Ferrari. Sergio Perez took ninth for
Mclaren.

For Vettel,
the records keep going. Abu Dhabi was his seventh win in a row, his 37th of his career, and this victory was also his 11th of the season out
of 17 rounds raced this year. For Vettel, his success has to come down to his
parents, who were in attendance.”It means a
lot to me,” he said. “I have been racing in front of them ever since I was a small
kid. Obviously there are bigger toys and more people watching. And it is very
special to me that they were watching here this weekend. I love them and I would
like to dedicate this win for them as I learned a lot from them.”
