Barberville, Fla. – Brad Sweet outhustled teammate Daryn Pittman to win the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Cars season opener before a record crowd at the Volusia Speedway Park. Driving for Kasey Kahne Racing, the pair started from the front row and took turns leading the highly competitive 30-lap feature with Sweet taking command on the final lap to win on the half-mile for the second time.

“Right there at the end, Daryn (Pittman) got blocked by a little bit of traffic, and it came down to the nitty-gritty and I got him at the line,” said Sweet. “We were fast enough to win the race and was checking out, but the way restarts work it gives a guy a second life, and he was able to beat me. Sometimes these races play out in your favor, and sometimes they don’t. It is nice to win the first night out and hopefully it keeps on rolling.”

Sammy Swindell came home third.

Greg Hodnett and Bryan Clauson were fourth and fifth.

Jason Sides, Dale Blaney, Kerry Madsen, Paul McMahon and Chad Kemenah rounded out the top-10 finishers.

In the feature, Steve Kinser and the lapped car of Austin McCarl took hard hits, ending their night.

Jacob Allen hurtled through the air when a wheel broke in the B- Main, collecting Dave Blaney in the process.

Donny Schatz saw his streak of 178 races, dating back to September, 2013, without a DNF end when his car went up in smoke while running in top-three.

Trent Young held off Nick Hoffman to win the 20-lap DIRTcar UMP Modified race. Jacob Hawkins took third ahead of NASCAR’s Kenny Wallace and Ty Dillon.
