West Allis, WI – William Sawalich captured his second win of the season in the ARCA Menards National Series and third in the ARCA Menards East Series with a dominant drive in a combined event at the Milwaukee Mile in the Sprecher 150.
The current ARCA Menards Series East point leader, Sawalich captured the pole position on Saturday and spent the race on Sunday at the front of the pack in the Joe Gibbs Racing Starkey SoundGear Toyota. Besides losing the lead shortly on a few restarts, Sawalich drove back to the lead within a lap and led the pack. At the finish, nine cars remained on the lead lap.
With the victory, Sawalich retains the top position in the standings with one race to go in the ARCA East. Wisconsin short track star, Luke Fenhaus finished in fourth position and is the closest competitor for the championship. The series heads to Bristol Motor Speedway to settle the championship on September 14th.
The only obstacle for Sawalich was ARCA Menards National Series point leader Jessie Love taking away the lead on restarts. But, normally Sawalich was able to drive past and take back the point on the next lap.
On the final restart Sawalich again lost the lead to Love and the battle to get the lead back was a bit spicier than previous attempts. After a few bumps to Love’s rear bumper through turns three and four and a swing and miss by Love to return the favor in turn one, Sawalich was back in the lead and set sail for the checkers.
The ARCA Menards Series will be back in action on Labor Day weekend when drivers head to the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds for the Southern Illinois 100 on September 3rd.
