Rain Interupts Carb Day At The Indianapolis Motor Speedway
- Updated: May 23, 2008
Speedway, IN, May 23, 2008 – Rain has interrupted festivities for Carb Day at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Most of the qualified cars got on the track for about fifteen minutes of the allotted thirty given to teams when a light drizzle started, then heavier rains moved in. Ryan Briscoe and Tomas Scheckter have not been on the track.
This year as in previous years there is a strong crowd at the Speedway, this event has become the ‘party at the track’ and usually has just as strong on pole day but more enthusiastic.
The main priority for track officials is to get the Freedom 100 Firestone Indy Lights race in today. If the rest of the day is a washout, speculation is that the Freedom 100 will run tomorrow after the Indy 500 drivers meeting which is scheduled for 10:30am. Some in the media center is guessing the race would start sometime between 12:00pm-1:00pm Saturday.
The loser in this is most likely the McDonald’s Pit Stop Challenge which probably would not be rescheduled. However if the rain moves out, they don’t have to dry the track for that event so they could squeeze it in today.
Also, Track Enterprises, Officials for USAC and the Indiana State Fairgrounds have announced the postponement of the 56th Annual Hoosier Hundred Silver Crown race due to inclement weather. A reschedule date has not been announced at this time.
“Unfortunately, Mother Nature did not cooperate,” stated Bob Sargent of Track Enterprises. “We will examine all possible avenues for a date that is a win-win situation for everyone that is involved.”
Once a conclusion has been reached regarding the rescheduling of the 56th Annual Hoosier Hundred it will be posted at www.trackenterprises.com, www.hoosierhundrec.com and www.usacracing.com, in addition to calling Track Enterprises, the USAC Offices or Ticketmaster.
