Qualifying Friday At Road America

Elkhart Lake, WI – Friday was qualifying day at Road America as four of the five series running in the road racing weekend set their line-ups for Saturday’s and Sunday’s races.

Qualifying for the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series was paced by Dane Cameron in the Team Sahlen BMW Riley. Cameron averaged 121.412 mph with a time of 2:00:.028 winning the pole for the VisitFlorida.com Sports Car 250. The GT class was led by the Scuderia Corsa Ferrari 458 driven by Leh Keen with a lap of 2:11:183. Tom Long set fast time in the GX class, touring the track in 2:19:310. Jordan Taylor and Max Angelelli will start second in the Wayne Taylor Racing Corvette DP. Memo Rojas and Scott Pruett qualified third for Chip Ganassi Racing and the 8 Star Motorsports Covette DP driven by Sebastian Bourdais and Emilio DiGuida will line up in the fourth position.

The Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge qualifying session was won by Bryan Heilkotter in the Doran Racing Nissan370Z with a 2 minute 22.236 second lap. Tyler Cooke in the BimmerWorld Racing BMW328i set the quickest lap in ST class qualifying pacing the track with a time of 2:31.117.

The Cooper Tires Prototype Lites races will be led to the green flag by Sean Rayhall of Comprent Motor Sports.

Winning the pole for the IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge series was Madison Snow in the Snow Racing/Wright Motorsports 2012 Porsche 997.

The American Le Mans Series held two practice sessions on Friday and will be qualifying on Saturday for Sunday’s ORION Energy Systems 245. The Muscle Milk Honda HPD ARX-03a driven by Lucas Luhr and Klaus Graf led the opening session, pacing the track at 1 minute 53.270 seconds. The P2 class was led by Scott Sharp and Guy Cosmo in their Honda. Tristan Nunez and Charlie Shears topped the PC class in their ORECA FLM09. Marc Goossens set the GT class pace in the SRT Viper GTS-R.

The late practice session for the ALMS was again led by Graf and Luhr in the Muscle Milk Honda who picked up the pace from the morning with a quick lap of 1:52.106 for an average speed of 129.991mph. Johannes van Overbeek led the P2 class in the Honda HPD ARX-03b. Colin Bran led the PC class, three tenths of a second quicker than the morning leaders in class. John Edwards paced the GT class in the BMW Z4 GTE and Sean Edwards was fastest in the GTC Porsche class.

Action continues at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin on Saturday with the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series VisitFlorida.com Sports Car 250 race and qualifying for the ALMS ORION Energy Systems 245 headlining an action packed day.
