Project 56 DeltaWing Announcement At Petit Le Mans

On Friday morning, September 30, the Project 56 DeltaWing car was presented to the press at Road Atlanta. The car, designed by former Lola chief designer Ben Bowlby, is currently being constructed by racing legend Dan Gurney at his All American Racers shop in Santa Ana, CA. On track testing is expected to begin later this year, with an eye to an entry at the 2012 24 Hours of Le Mans. The car is to be campaigned under the banner of Highcroft Racing, under team leader Duncan Dayton.

The car, specially invited to participate at Le Mans as a the 56th entry (hence the name of the project), is designed to showcase technical development, innovation and new technologies. Michelin is developing special tires for this radical new race car design.
