Power Rankings – Michigan

The Sprint Cup drivers take to the wide open, two mile track known as Michigan International Speedway. For the first time, the COT cars will see the pavement in Brooklyn, MI. With the ability to run multiple line in the corners caution flags could be few and fuel mileage strategy may be the key to victory.

The RacingNation.com Power Rankings tells you who we think will be burning up the track. Feel free to let us know your thoughts, send us an

RacingNation.com Power Rankings
Kyle Busch ? Could we have seen a crack in the Kyle Busch armor? The wall meeting resulted in a last place finish in Pocono, but it?s going to take a lot more to derail this train.

Carl Edwards ? Roush Fenway Racing loves Michigan International Speedway and so does Carl. Look for Edwards to be flipping out of his car on Sunday.

Greg Biffle ? Biffle has been knocking on the door and as stated with Edwards, this will be a good track for him. There will be a number of Roush Fenway Racing cars at the front of the pack.

Matt Kenseth ? Kenseth is charging to the front with top ten finishes in the last four points races. Add eight top tens in the last ten Michigan races bodes and this looks like a very good week for Matt.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. ? Three top fives in the last four points races has kept Junior solidly third in points. But, he is still looking for that first Hendrick win.

Tony Stewart ? A scant seven points is all the separates Stewart from falling out of the top twelve in points. Continuing his top ten streak at Michigan, currently at three, will help but may not keep him in the ?Chase 12?.

Kasey Kahne ? After his All-Star win, Kahne has won two out of three points races and is looking like he may be back to 2006 form. By the way, Kasey won this race at Michigan in 2006.

David Ragan ? Just the opposite for Ragan, those seven points can put him back in the top twelve and with Michigan being a Roush Fenway track, it could happen this weekend.

Denny Hamlin ? Hamlin needs to beat the heat and back up his third place finish at Pocono. He needs to avoid all of the issues that keep finding his car and get back on his spring run when he had four top tens in a row. Just one look at his teammate, Tony Stewart, shows how quickly a driver can drop in the standings.

Jeff Gordon ? The first win of 2008 could happen at Michigan but Gordon will need to get past the Roush guys to capture the flag. He has won twice at Michigan but the last one was way back in 2001.

Jimmie Johnson ? Things are still not right in the Hendrick camp. As surprising as that is, after last season, you never know when they will turn it around and be unstoppable.

Jeff Burton ? Little by little, he is closing in on front runner Busch. He has ten top ten finishes in the fourteen races this year and his worst finish was a thirteenth at Daytona.

Others to watch:
Kurt Busch ? With a top ten last week, Busch could get on a roll at Michigan.
Jamie McMurray ? Jamie is in need of a big weekend and this track could give it to him.
Ryan Newman ? 10 points out of returning to the top twelve.
Bobby Labonte ? Michigan used to be Bobby?s track, it would be great to see him back at the front in the 43.
