West Allis, WI – Pato O’Ward won his third NTT IndyCar Series race of the season leading 133 of the 250 laps at the Milwaukee Mile. O’Ward was able to hold off championship contenders over the final 60 laps to secure the victory.

“It was nice to bounce back like this after a solid qualifying effort, then really putting it together in the race,” said O’Ward. “Great pit stops, great strategy. It all definitely came together for us.”

While O’Ward led, behind him was Team Penske’s Will Power doing all he could to stay in the championship fight. Finishing second will help but with Alex Palou finishing fifth, the battle continues with Palou leading by 43 points and able to clinch on Sunday if he wins the second round at the Mile and leads the most laps.

“I’m stoked to get on the podium,” explained Power. “One more was what we needed, but Pato was super good and strong, and he got through that traffic really well. Alex [Palou] was super consistent, so it’s hard to drop that points gap, but we’re doing everything we need to at the moment. We’ll keep digging.”

Completing the podium was a run by Conor Daly that got the crowd fired up. The fan favorite drove from 25th place to third with 51 on-track passes.

“Yeah, kind of crazy. I mean, I honestly didn’t know how good we were. The first lap I decided to just go where there was open space. Turns out that worked. Then, yeah, we just kept going. It was kind of slowly working our way forward,” said Daly.
Santino Ferrucci ran at the front again this week and mixed it up in the top three before finishing fourth.

Round two of the double header weekend at the Milwaukee Mile will see the green flag fly at 2:00pm Central Time for the 250 lap race. Coverage will start at 1:30pm Central Time on on USA Network, Peacock and the INDYCAR Radio Network.
