For the first time this season, the Cup Series leader is the favorite heading into a race. This week that means that the ice cold Chase Elliott is the oddsmakers’ pick to win the Save Mart 350.
Despite finishing outside the top-20 in each of his last three races, Elliott is given +550 odds or an implied 15.4% chance to win the Save Mart 350. That makes him the favorite, with Kyle Larson, +650, his biggest competition.
Unlike last week’s race where 8 drivers were given at least +850 odds by at least one sportsbook, only Elliott and Larson top that mark this week. Martin Truex Jr. is close at +900, or an implied 10% chance. However, those are the only three given at least a 10% chance to win the race.
Quote from OddsChecker spokesman Kyle Newman, “Oddsmakers love backing ice cold drivers. For the majority of the season it’s been Kyle Larson, but as he’s heating up with 7 top-12 finishes in his last 9 races, oddsmakers flip to Chase Elliott who’s struggled in his last 3. Oddsmakers favorites have won just one race this year. Will Elliott make it two this weekend?”
