Indiana Midget Week Crown Goes To Wilke-PAK

Milwaukee,Wis., Aug. 14—Wilke-PAK Motorsports and driver Jerry Coons Jr.continue to add to trophy case during the 2007 season, as the pair claimed the USAC Indiana Midget Week Title this past weekend. The four-race series also awarded USAC National Midget Car Series points.

Kamp Motor Speedway (Bowell,Ind.) hosted the opening event, with the National Midgets making their first appearance at the track since 1977. Three weeks ago Coons captured the USAC National Sprint Car feature at track. Coons led the final 20-laps of the event to score the feature victory.

The next evening at I-69 Gas City Speedway (Gas City,Ind.), after winning the semi feature Coons charged through the field to take home a fifth place finish. Saturday the series headed to Lawrenceburg (Ind.) Speedway, where the Wilke team has posted three previous feature victories. Coons placed third behind winner Kevin Swindell, and Darren Hagen.

The event finale came at Kokomo (Ind.) Speedway, Sunday where Coons finished fourth in the feature event. The team also took home the lionshare of the four-race point fund posted by Torco Racing Fuels.

The four top five finishes have moved Wilke-PAK Motorsports into the lead in the USAC National Midget Car Owners Championship, now holding a 31-point advantage over their nearest competitor. Coons meanwhile now holds a 97-point cushion over Hagen in USAC National Midget Driver points. Coons has also taken over the lead in the National Midget Driver of the Year Championship.

The small tiny bullring 1/5-mile clay oval at Macon (Ill.) Speedway is next on the USAC National schedule this Friday Aug.17. The teams last appearance at the track came on Sept. 4, 2005 when driver Tracy Hines charged through the field from 14th starting position to score the feature victory.
