Guerrieri Dominates David Hobbs 100 At Milwaukee

WEST ALLIS, WI: The David Hobbs 100 for the Firestone Indy Lights got off to a rocky start at the Milwaukee Mile Sunday. Before the green flag was even thrown, the thirteen car starting field was five racers short as mechanical problems and a three car accident, set off when Victor Garcia and Brandon Wagner collided exiting turn four, decimated the field.

When the race finally began, pole winner Esteban Guerrieri of Argentina jumped into the lead with fellow front row starter Josef Newgarden in pursuit. USAC champion Bryan Clauson, after competing in yesterday’s Midget and Silver Crown events at the mile, slotted into a smooth fifth place, and appeared quite comfortable in only his second rear-engined start.

The eight cars that actually contested the event were able to run a relatively trouble-free 100 miles, with Clauson making the only move in the top five, passing Gustavo Yacaman for fourth place on lap 88.

The David Hobbs 100 was the first Indy Lights victory for Esteban Guerrieri, a former pole winner who scored runner-up finishes in the previous two events driving for Sam Schmidt Motorsports. Guerrieri is the fourth different winner in the five Firestone Indy Lights races contested in 2011.
