F1600 Formula F Championship Series Announces 2011 Schedule

Sharon, CT – The F1600 Formula F Championship Series today announced its inaugural season schedule, consisting of five weekends and 10 events, pairing with the F2000 Championship Series. The new Formula F Series opens the year at VIRginia International Raceway in early April. Following VIR, the tour visits Watkins Glen International, Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, Lime Rock Park and concludes the season with a second date at Watkins Glen in mid-October.

“The inaugural season, featuring four great tracks and five weekends of double-headers, will give us a chance to judge interest and grid sizes,” said Michael Rand, F1600 managing director. “If the current exceptional level of interest results in good fields, the new series will be a great addition to the F2000 schedule.”

The 2011 season will see F1600 pair with the F2000 Series, using the same staff and lending itself to the same concepts of a balanced schedule with double-race weekends and lots of track time. With the goal of over two hours of track time [not including testing sessions where available] and single class racing the F1600 Formula F Championship Series looks to be on solid ground.

VIR will kick off the season, April 8-10, pairing both Series with the Vintage Drivers Club of America. Watkins Glen is next with the Grand-Am Series, June 3-5. The Series opens the month of July at Mid-Ohio, June 30-July2. In September, it’s Lime Rock with the NASCAR Modifieds, September 16-17, and the season concludes at the highly popular Watkins Glen, October 14-16.

“The end of season survey of our F2000 customers showed conclusively that one track is at or near the top of everyone’s list, and that is Watkins Glen International. With the Grand Am six-hour spectator weekend in June and the October date with Vintage Racers Group in the Finger Lakes spectacular fall season, we have it covered,” commented Rand.
