East Dominates Newton Silver Crown Event

Newton, Iowa, June 24 – Bobby East took the lead on lap 33 of the 100-lap TRAXX USAC Silver Crown race at Iowa Speedway Saturday night and went on to win by a three-quarter-lap margin on the 7/8 mile banked track.

As the field took the green, polesitter Brad Sweet grabbed the lead and held it until lap 25 when Tanner Swanson took over the top spot after dogging Sweet for several laps.

At that point the top five were Swanson, Sweet, Bobby East, A.J. Fike and Bryan Clauson.

Swanson’s lead was short-lived as East, who had passed Sweet on lap 27, to take second, took the lead from Sweet right at the start-finish line.

From that point on, East took off and left the field in the dust lapping almost the entire field at the end of the 100-lap event.

Bobby Santos III made an outstanding run through the field from his 16th starting position to finish second, while Kyle Larson was third, Swanson finished fourth and Bud Kaeding rounded out the top five.

The event was run caution free and the 100 laps were completed in just under 39 minutes.
