Dollansky Speeds To All Star Sprint Win At Volusia

Barberville, Fla. – Craig Dollansky made it look easy as he powered the Big Game Tree Stands/Karavan Maxim to victory in the 30-lap All Star Circuit of Champions Sprint Car race at the Volusia Speedway Park. The race marked the opening round of the 39th Winternationals presented by University of Northwestern Ohio (UNOH).

Jumping into the lead on the opening lap of the feature, the Minnesota native led all but one circuit of the 24-car feature event. In the closing laps, he was hounded by Joey Saldana and Donnie Schatz. These two finished second and third, respectively.

When Tim Kaeding flipped on the 29th lap, the fans were treated to three extra laps of competition as part of a green-white-checkered-flag finish.

“We set quick time and got a good draw for the feature, and it was a great night for us,” Dollansky said. “When Sides got by me (for one lap) in traffic I lost my front end, but we weren’t done,” the winner said. “This was a good way to start off 2010.”

Saldana came from eighth to second in Kasey Kahne’s car. “I don’t think Craig (Dollansky) was that good, as he slowed down in lapped traffic,” Saldana said. “We got up there to pass him, but we didn’t have the speed them other guys did.”

Schatz took third with new teammate Steve Kinser fourth.

Stevie Smith took fifth place.

Sixth through 10th were Lucas Wolfe, Daryn Pittman, Jason Meyers, Lance DeWease and Sam Hafertepe Jr.

40 sprint cars signed in along with 75 DIRTcar UMP modifieds.

All Star action continued tomorrow and will be followed by three nights of World of Outlaws sprint-car action.
