Cunningham IPS Winner At The Glen

Watkins Glen, NY ? New Zealand?s Wade Cunningham was untouchable as he led all 29 laps of the first of two Indy Pro Series Corning Twin 100s at Watkins Glen International Saturday afternoon.

In scoring his fifth career victory, Cunningham won for the first time at Watkins Glen and earned his third top-three finish in as many races. The victor drove the Automatic Fire Sprinklers car fielded by Andretti Green Racing.

?It was a pretty easy race for me,? Cunningham said. ?It was important to lead the first lap, and Alex Lloyd (2nd place starter) didn?t get a good start, which allowed me to build up a cushion.?

The winner started from the pole position after setting a track record of 125.406 miles per hour, which was four mph faster than the standard he set in 2005.

On the last lap, second-pace finisher Hideki Mutoh made an unsuccessful attempt to catch Cunningham. ?I tried to pass him on every lap but it didn?t happen,? said the Tokyo driver. ?This was my first time at the Glen, and I am still learning.?

Third place went to Alex Lloyd, who has finished on the podium in each race this season. The Brit has won six times and finished second twice to go along with today?s third spot.

Sixth through tenth places were earned by Daniel Herrington, Jaime Camara, Richard Antinucci, Mike Potekhen and Andrew Prendeville.
Another Corning Twin 100 will be run on Sunday preceding the Camping World IndyCar Watkins Glen Grand Prix.

The top finishers in today?s race drew for their starting position in tomorrow?s event with Cunningham to start sixth and Lloyd will start fourth.
