Chip Ganassi Racing Leads The Rolex24 6 Hours Into It

Daytona Beach, Fla. – After all-night and early morning rain in Daytona Beach, the skies cleared Saturday morning and the sun came out prior to the start of the 53rd running of the Rolex24 to the delight of the large crowd gathering for the round-the-clock endurance race.

At the outset, Scott Dixon immediately rocketed into the lead over-hauling pole winner Ozz Negri by the time the 53-car field made it to the second turn.

As the race wore on, four other Prototype class cars took turns at the point with each of the two Ganassi Ford EcoBoost entries seemingly the ones to be reckoned with.

Six hours into the fray the Ganassi foursome of Joey Hand, Scott Pruett, Charlie Kimball and youthful Sage Karam held the lead with mount of Dixon, Tony Kanaan, Kyle Larson and Jamie McMurray in second.

Third overall was the pole-winning Michael Shank Ligier Honda in third with A. J. Allmendinger at the wheel.

The leaders had completed 182 laps around the 3.56-mile road course.

Karam set the fastest lap of the race, doing so in traffic.

Mark Wilkins led the Prototype Challenge class.

In the GTLM class, Jan Magnussen had a Chevrolet Corvette out front with a sister car of Oliver Gavin in second.

Kuno Wittmer had a Dodge Viper SRT in the lead in the GTD class.
