Castroneves Quickest Pre Qualifying

Indianapolis – In the final practice session before qualifying for the Angie’s List Grand Prix of Indianapolis, Helio Castroneves posted the quickest lap so far and the 2.439 mile Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course.

Turning a lap in one minute and 10.3756 seconds, Castroneves bested yesterdays runs and sets himself up as a favorite for the pole position. Scott Dixon was the quickest in yesterday’s practice sessions with a lap of 1 minute and 10.6971 seconds. Castroneves was fifth overall during Thursday’s practices.

The Angie’s List Grand Prix of Indianapolis will be the 300 IndyCar start for Castroneves, placing him seventh all time in the series.

Dixon was 5th in today’s round with a quicker lap by a little over a tenth of a second from yesterday’s run.  Other top drivers today included Sebastian Bourdais, second overall, and last year’s winner Simon Pagenaud with the third quickest lap.

The top seven drivers were all powered by Chevrolet with Graham Rahal the quickest Honda with a lap of 1 minute and 11.0405 sesconds.

Over the three practice sessions drivers ran 1985 laps on the road course.

Verizon IndyCar Series Qualifying is set to start today at 3pm eastern.
