Biggest F1 In Schools World Finals To Be Held In Texas Next Month

AUSTIN, Texas (Oct. 4, 2013) – F1 in Schools holds its ninth World Finals next month and the stage is set for it to be the biggest event in the history of the competition. It is being held for the first time in the U.S., linking with the 2013 FORMULA 1 UNITED STATES GRAND PRIX at the fabulous Circuit of The Americas in Austin, Texas. With 39 teams of students from 23 countries, the race for the World Champions title is heating up.

The students who will be travelling to Austin in early November can expect an amazing experience, with F1 in Schools putting together a program crammed with activities, including a visit to the Texas State Capitol, exclusive access to the COTA Tower, a glittering Awards Celebration Dinner attended by representatives from the F1 teams and an official after party as well as the all-important World Finals competition judging at the Hyatt Regency in Austin.

All the World Finalists have put in tremendous effort and hundreds of hours of hard work in their quest to be the F1 in Schools World Champions 2013. The title is a prize itself, but along with this accolade the winning students will be presented with the Bernie Ecclestone World Champions trophy by the F1 supremo on a visit to the Circuit of The Americas paddock. They will also win highly coveted BSc Automotive and Motorsport Engineering scholarships to City University London, an opportunity to continue their education at one of the top UK universities.

Andrew Denford, Founder and Chairman, F1 in Schools previews the event saying, “I am anticipating the busiest, most closely-fought competition in the history of F1 in Schools next month. We have more teams competing than we’ve ever had and this will inevitably drive up the standards.

“We are all set for the biggest F1 in Schools World Finals yet, with more teams than in any previous World Finals competing for the World Champions title. We have a fantastic event lined up for the students, with a mix of intensive work and the challenge of competing at the highest-level of F1 in Schools, alongside the excitement and unique experience of the 2013 FORMULA 1 UNITED STATES GRAND PRIX.”

The 2013 F1 in Schools World Finals will be taking place Nov. 15-18 ahead of the 2013 FORMULA 1 UNITED STATES GRAND PRIX. The F1 in Schools World Finals teams, with three to six members in each, have won through from their National Final and in many countries, they will have had to win a Regional Final along the way, to represent their county at this international event. Four of the teams will be collaborations, with two teams from different countries combining their skills and presenting themselves as one team to compete with other collaborations and national champions, an opportunity offered to each National Finals’ runners-up team. The collaboration teams communicate by virtual technologies such as CISCO WebEx before finally meeting each other for the first time when they arrive in the USA.

The F1 in Schools World Finals take place with the assistance of a host of sponsors and supporters including Circuit of The Americas, The Institution of Engineering and Technology, City University London, Autodesk and Austin Independent Schools District.
