Austin Dillon Goes For Triple In Indianapolis

Starting on Wednesday and capping off the week on Sunday, Austin Dillon will be going for three wins as NASCAR visits Indianapolis.

NASCAR returns to dirt track racing when the Camping World Truck Series visits Tony Stewart’s Eldora Speedway for the CarCash Mudsummer Classic. The Wednesday night at the half-mile dirt track is 150 laps and the 2011 Camping World Truck Series champ did not want to miss the first series race on dirt.

“I’m really excited,” Dillon said. “I feel like we’ll have a shot to win. Eldora is a place I grew up dirt racing on, set the pole for the World 100 once and feel like it’s an unbelievable opportunity that NASCAR is giving us drivers to go and run on dirt. I’m just excited to be in the inaugural dirt race in the truck series.”

Back on pavement, Dillon will compete in the NASCAR Nationwide Series Indiana 250 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Saturday. Dillon scored a top five in the inaugural race at the Brickyard last year and just picked up his second third place finish in a row at Chicagoland last Saturday continuing a five race streak of all top ten runs and three top five finishes. Dillon has climbed to third in the Nationwide Series point standings and sits eight points behind leader Sam Hornish Jr.

Wrapping up the extended weekend is the Brickyard 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race on Sunday at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Dillon is one of fourty-five drivers entered and will try to make the fourty-three car field during Saturday’s qualifying.

Dillon has competed in eight Sprint Cup Series races since 2011, including six this season so far. With a best finish of eleventh at this year’s June race in Michigan, the only track he has raced twice at, Dillon is showing he has what it takes to compete with the best drivers in NASCAR.

“It’s going to be a pretty busy week and I’m looking forward to it,” Dillon said. “As far as starting the Brickyard 400, I think it’s going to be a very emotional day. Our first one is going to be very special.”
