Antinucci Wins Ips Finale At Infineon
- Updated: August 26, 2007
Sonoma, CA ? Richard Antinucci, nephew of Indianapolis 500 winner Eddie Cheever Jr., soared from seventh to first, to win the Valley of the Moon 100, the second IndyPro Series race of the weekend on the road course at Infineon Speedway.
For the Rome native, it marked his second win of the season, having been victorious at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course a month ago. He drove a Cheever Racing entry and gave the team its second win also.
?Two of the last three road course races, we?ve got to be proud of that,? Antinucci said. ?We worked overnight on the car and we had the best car out there. I have to thank my uncle Eddie (Cheever) for giving me this chance.? A day ago, Antinucci finished second to winner Alex Lloyd.
Ryan Justice, who led the opening 18 laps, finished second. Finishing second was his career-best IPS finish. ?Antinucci was definitely quicker where he needed to be, and that?s how he got past,? Justice stated. ?Strategy wise I didn?t want to let the third-pace car catch us if I tried to battle Antinucci too long.?
Upstart Andrew Prendeville drove his best race to garner third place. ?I am very happy with my first podium finish,? the New Jersey native said. He started second.
Newly crowned champion Alex Lloyd did not start the race due to mechanical trouble.
Logan Gomez took fourth place followed by Stephen Simpson, Jonathan Klein, Matt Jaskol, Mike Potekhen, Brad Jaeger and Hideki Mutoh.
