Along with the Mobil 1 12 Hours of Sebring, there is another event that is a “must see” for automotive fans in the spring – the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance. This outstanding event, founded by Bill Warner in 1996 is a car fan’s delight. This year’s event takes place at the Ritz Carlton on Amelia Island from March 7-10.
If you go, you will see an outstanding selection of road and race cars, be able to meet this year’s honoree Jacky Ickx (along with many other racing legends who will be in attendance), browse and purchase everything from fine jewelry to motorsports memorabilia from vendors from around the world, and even attend world class auto auctions and spend millions for rare automobiles.
All of these activities start on Thursday and climax with the actual concours which is on the field on Sunday, March 10.
A highlight for me will be the Porsche 962 Dynasty seminar which will be held on Saturday morning at the Ritz Carlton. The discussion will be led by Justin Bell and feature legendary drivers Brian Redman, Hurley Haywood, Jochen Mass, Rob Dyson and Jacky Ickx. This one promises to be outstanding, and I can’t wait to see it.
The weather looks great for the entire week – temperatures in the 70’s and no rain, so make it to Amelia Island if you can. You won’t regret it, as this is one of the finest (if not the finest) events of its type anywhere in the country.
See you there.
