Alex Lloyd Wins Fifth Straight Indy Pro Race at Milwaukee
- Updated: June 2, 2007
Manchester, England?s amazing Alex Lloyd scored an unprecedented fifth straight victory in the Indy Pro Series by leading every lap of Saturday?s Road Runner 100 at the historic Milwaukee Mile. In a series where all the cars are virtually identical, the fact that Lloyd and his Sam Schmidt Motorsports team has won every race of the 2007 season thus far is almost beyond belief.
The fun started early as Milwaukee Mile rookie Stephen Simpson managed to hit the wall while warming his tires on the pace lap, eliminating himself on the spot. But, unfortunately, the mayhem was only beginning.
As expected, pole winner Alex Lloyd, himself a Milwaukee Mile rookie, blasted into the lead at the drop of the flag. Behind him, fifth-starting Hideki Mutoh looped his Panther Panasonic car in heavy traffic at the exit of the dreaded turn two. When the smoke cleared, Mutoh, along with Andrew Prendeville, Logan Gomez, and former Indy Pro champion Jaime Camara were through for the day. No injuries were reported, even though Camara?s car went partially under Mutoh?s in the incident.
Another attempt at a restart went wrong as turn two captured yet another victim. Jon Brownson looped, making light contact with the inside wall. At this early stage, seven of the 22 car field was on the sidelines.
None of this seemed to matter to Alex Lloyd, who continued to lead in quest of an amazing fifth straight victory in the Indy Pro Series. Mike Potekhen and Jonathan Klein, running second and third respectively, watched from a respectful distance as Lloyd held firmly to the lead.
The race continued under green until lap 82, when Indy pole winner Ken Losch spun into the infield in?you guessed it…turn two. When the green flag flew four laps later, Alex Lloyd continued in front and, a few minutes later powered under the checkered flag, virtually uncontested throughout. Another totally dominating performance had been scored by the future superstar.
