INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA December 9, 2021: Using the backdrop of the 2021 Performance Racing Industry trade show the Indianapolis Motor Speedway unveiled their 2022 Race Day ticket honoring the 2021 winner, Helio Castroneves at Lucas Oil Stadium.

The unveiling in front of a large live crowd was a departure from previous announcements and judging by the reception it may well become a fixture of the annual Racer’s only trade show in years to come.

Castroneves became the fourth driver to win the 500 four times when he drove the Meyer-Shank Honda to a tremendously popular win in May joining A.J. Foyt, Al Unser Sr., and Rick Mears in that very elite club of 500 winners.

A time honored Indianapolis Motor Speedway tradition features a photograph of the winner of the race on next year’s ticket and for Castroneves it will be the fourth time he has been so honored but the first time that he could share the recognition in front of a fan base that was clearly supportive of him and his accomplishments.

Joining Castroneves on stage in the atrium of Lucas Oil Stadium was Performance Racing Industry President Jamie Meyer, who took over the reins of PRI in May of 2020 amid the pandemic chaos in and around racing, and used his 15 years of experience at General Motors as Performance Parts Program Manager to keep PRI moving forward once again.

Indianapolis Motor Speedway President Doug Boles and ticket designer Mandy Walsh, the IMS Art Director, were also present on stage for the unveiling.

The photograph that was used on the ticket was taken by IMS Photo Operations Manager, Chris Owens and depicts his four fingers raised indicating his fourth triumph. The victor’s wreath, portion of the Borg-Warner trophy and his car were also in the background. Castroneves other three victory ticket pictures all depicted the drinking of the milk tradition as the main theme.

As usual, Castroneves was his jubilant self, smiling and just happy to be part of all the excitement again. He promised a valiant effort to win number 5 this coming May. “Every time you (see the ticket), it brings you memories that we did something remarkable,” said Castroneves.

He concluded his brief speech, “Thank you to everyone, this is so special, so much a part of history, I am happy to have shared it with you.”

The new tickets will be mailed to current tickets holders soon.
