13th Annual Historic Indy Car Meet Features Dozens of Indy 500 Vintage Race Cars

July 7-8, 2007 – The Harry A. Miller Club meet this Saturday and Sunday, July 7 & 8, one of the finest vintage open wheel events in the country, will be held at The Milwaukee Mile, host of an estimated 112 open wheel championship races, more than any other active track in America.

The Harry A. Miller Club was formed by a handful of friends to celebrate the genius of the aforementioned Harry Artemus Miller, a Menomonie, WI native. The ?Millers at Milwaukee? event is spearheaded by Milwaukeean David Uihlein, a passionate collector of classic open wheel machinery of racing?s Golden Age. Miller-built race cars and race engines dominated the Indianapolis 500 and board tracks across America in the 1920?s and 1930?s. Miller?s craftsmanship and ingenuity produced an amazing lineage of 39 Indianapolis 500-winning race cars.

The Miller Meet celebrates the classics of Indy Car racing, including impeccably restored pre-WWI Indy Cars that are true works of art, including Marmons and Mercers, Duesenbergs and Millers of the 1920?s and 1930?s. Add upright dirt cars that dominated the State Fair tracks in the 1950?s and 1960?s such as Springfield, DuQuion and Syracuse along with the popular Offenhauser-powered Indianapolis roadsters, and you?ll quickly take hold of auto racing history that roars to life at this special event.

Each year, Mr. Uihlein rolls out some of his glorious Millers for display, as he joins the dozens of enthusiasts who display and exercise their restored machines on the historic one-mile oval. Miller Club board member Herb Lederer says the Miller Meet bodes well to have a few surprises this year, ?We?re hoping to have a few entries that haven?t appeared at the (Miller) Meet before, such as a few pre-war machines and a couple of other cars that the fans will love.?

It is much more than a car show, as many of the priceless cars breathe life and are driven around America?s Legendary Oval!

It is not usual to see Hall of Fame race car innovator A.J. Watson or Sprint Car Hall of Famer Willie Davis ?tweaking? the intakes of an Offenhauser or a Four-Cam Ford.

On Saturday July 7th, the gates of the Milwaukee Mile will open at 8am, with these exciting cars running the oval from 10am-4pm. On Sunday, July 8th, pits open at 8am, with cars on the track from 10am-3pm. A vendor?s area will also be available in the paddock area. All spectator passes are available for purchase the day of the event. The fees are $25.00 for adults (good for both days) and $5.00 for children under the age of 16. Children are not allowed in the pit area when the cars are on the track.

With gratitude to David Uihlein and the Harry A. Miller Club, the ?Millers at Milwaukee? gathering is a celebration of a splendid collection of auto racing masterpieces held but once a year, only at The Milwaukee Mile. It is highly recommended that you put it on the ?things to see? list this summer. It is the premier vintage open wheel event of the year. ? Steve Zautke
