Charlotte, NC—65 years after their founders first race car burned to the ground during their first event, Wood Brothers Racing enters 2015 as the longest continually operating team on the NASCAR Sprint Cup tour.

The Wood Brothers will compete with rookie Ryan Blaney in 2015 as the team continues its role in developing younger drivers. A technical alliance with Team Penske is new on the horizon for the upcoming year along with an expanded schedule that features an additional six races from years past.

In addition to their normally schedule events, Wood Brothers Racing will add events at Kentucky Speedway and New Hampshire Motor Speedway as well as the Bristol night race. The Wood Brothers will also be on hand as the Southern 500 returns to its traditional Labor Day weekend date at Darlington before also adding races at Chicagoland Speedway and the Charlotte Motor Speedway in the October.

“It’s been a great experience getting to know everyone at the Wood Brothers and I’ve been to their museum the past couple of weeks and have learned something new each time I went there,” Blaney stated as he enters his rookie season on the Sprint Cup tour.

Blaney, the son of former Cup driver and winged sprint car star Dave Blaney, also said the racing history between his family and the Wood Brothers makes the two a good match.

“Their legacy is pretty unique to me as well as I come from a long family of racing and the same with the Wood Brothers,” Blaney said, “It’s really special and I think it is something we can share amongst our long family of racers. It’s a really good bond because that’s all we care about is racing and wanting to do well.”
