Watkins Glen, N. Y. – Zach Veach jumped from fifth to first on the opening lap and couldn’t be caught as the Ohio native raced to victory in the Mazda Grand Prix of Watkins Glen Presented by Cooper Tires. The 25-lap race was run under the Indy Lights Series banner.
He drove the Belardi Auto Racing entry, finishing 3.6 seconds ahead of Ed Jones.
“Today was kind of a weird day from qualifying to just before the start with car problems,” the victor said. “For the start, it was a matter of being at the right place at the right time. We got lucky and caught Santiago (Urrutia’s) draft in the bus stop, to get the lead. After that I used my push-to-passes to maintain my lead.”
Third place went to Andre Negrao with Kyle Kaiser and Neil Alberico next in line.
