Book Review: NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series "From Desert Dust to Superspeedways"

NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series "From Desert Dust to Superspeedways" is an appealing book written by John Close regarding NASCAR's 'third' series, but on most weekends usually the most entertaining. The hardcover book has over 230 photographs and looks back at a series that dates back to 1994. The Truck Series had it's first exhibition event at Mesa Marin Speedway on July 30, 1994. It was a 20-lap shootout featuring five trucks (Dave Ashley, Gary Collins, P.J. Jones, Craig Huartson, and Rob MacCachren were the drivers). The race only took seven minutes and was won by P.J. Jones, an IMSA and CART veteran. This book takes a look back at popular drivers like Joe Ruttman, Tony Raines and Jay Sauter as well as early stalwarts, Ron Hornaday, Jr. and Jack Sprague. Did you know that NASCAR Sprint Cup owner, Rick Hendrick ran the July 29, 1995 Kansas Heartland Park road race and finished 23rd? The book also reminisces fallen drivers John Nemechek and Kenny Irwin, Jr. Remember the ten minute Halftime Break? It's all in the book.

I recommend "NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series" by John Close contains great photos, great trivia, a nice concise book on the Truck Series, it'll fill out your stock car section of your library nicely.
