Steve Petrosky – Motor Racing Artist

When I go to a racing event, I like to take in the entire scene. One of my favorite things to do is to stroll through the paddock area, checking out the various racing vendors who follow the circus we call racing and check out their wares.

One of the finest racing artists in the country is Steve Petrosky, who is from Cincinnati, OH and has been making appearances at racing events around the country for the past 15 seasons. You may have seen him at Monterey, Daytona, Sebring, Road America or Watkins Glen among the many venues where he has shown his work.

Steve is a professional artist by trade, who works as a graphic artist and package designer when not partaking in his real passion, which is motor racing art. His paintings cover the gamut of racing history, from early British cars (one of his favorites) to the latest sports prototypes from Porsche and Audi. His originals and prints are in the collections of many drivers and teams and often when you see Steve at the track he is busy at work, painting his latest creation.

Unlike most artists, who have zeroed on a particular style of painting, Steve has two distinct and totally different styles.  One is a fluid and loose style, mostly done in the watercolor medium, which convey the color, excitement and action of motor racing. His other style, which draws upon his graphic design and computer skills, is a series of prints he calls “Tech Views”, which are incredibly detailed profiles of current and historic race cars with uncanny attention to accuracy and detail. These technical profiles are accurate down to the exact placement of sponsorship decals and even the smallest nut and bolt on a car.

His “Tech View” series is continually expanding, and currently encompasses well over 400 different cars, color schemes and sponsorship variations. By the way, he also has some fantastic aircraft and boat technical prints in his portfolio as well. In addition to this impressive array of work, Steve also accepts commissions, so whether you want a technical drawing of your own car or favorite race car or a fluid, impressionistic original painting of a racing scene, Steve is willing and able to accommodate your requests.

So the next time you visit a racing venue, be sure to take a stroll through the vendor area in the paddock. Stop by and say hello to Steve Petrosky and take the time to enjoy some of the incredible work he has done.

You can see many of Steve’s works on his website at driversroad.com and can make email contact with him through his website.
