Sonoma, Calif. – Will Power came away with the fastest time during a 3 ½ hour Verizon IndyCar Series practice session at the picturesque Sonoma Raceway on Friday afternoon. The Aussie’s time of 1:7.6184 was tops as 25 teams prepared for Sunday’s GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma, the final race of the 2015 season.

“That was definitely an interesting session and the first time we got to try the new tire,” the three-time race winner said. “On a long run, the tire degrades a lot, which should create really good racing. A good session but tomorrow’s the one that really counts and we are in the window, so now we have to go home and study and have a look at changes we may want to make, to see how we can go a little bit faster.”

Title contender Graham Rahal moved up to second in the late going with a time of 1:17.6423 around the 12-turn, 2.38-mile road course.

“It was a good start for us,” Rahal commented. “At the beginning of the session, we weren’t very good, actually we
were struggling, but at end of day, we got the car turned around. After some changes, the car was miles better.”

Pocono winner Ryan Hunter-Reay gained the third spot with Scott Dixon fourth and Marco Andretti fifth.

Trailing them were Simon Pagenaud, Helio Castroneves, Charlie Kimball, point leader Juan Pablo Montoya and Sebastien
Bourdais.
