Indianapolis, IN – Kody Swanson scored an impressive victory in the Hoosier Hundred at the Indiana State Fairgrounds on Thursday evening. Working his way to the front from his eighth starting position, the young Californian turned a ho-hum race into a thriller as he forged into the lead on the 77th circuit to the delight of the crowd.

The race marked the third event of the season for the USAC Silver Crown Championship Series and Swanson has won both of them.

Swanson drove the DePalma Motorsports/Radio Hospital/Maxim/Hampshire to victory. For his successful career, he has won five Silver Crown races.

En route to victory lane Swanson passed the likes of Shane Cockrum, Caleb Armstrong, Chris Windom, Tracy Hines and lastly race leader Bobby East. The latter led the first 76 stanzas until Swanson swept by on the outside going into turn 1.

“We started eighth and at a place like this it is hard to pass,” Swanson said. “You have to be aggressive when you have opportunities. We got up to third pretty quickly and as the laps were winding down, you have to get creative. You have to find something that no one else has and try to make it work. I knew there was no way under him (East) and to get it done, I had to get to the outside. This car worked in every lane tonight, and I am happy to do it.”

Regarding his victory in the prestigious race, he said, “This is such a historic race with so many name drivers winning it and to add my name to that record book is special.”

East finished second with fast qualifier Tracy Hines coming home third.

Jerry Coons Jr. took fourth with Windom fifth.

Rounding out the top-10 finishers were Zach Daum, Aaron Pierce, Chris Urish, A. J. Fike and Christopher Bell.

The series races next on June 14 at Gateway Motorsports Park in Madison, IL.

In the 20-lap UMPmodified event, Larry Kramer bested NASCAR veteran Kenny Schrader for the win.
