Jones Repeats In IndyLights Action In St. Petersburg

St. Petersburg, Fla. – For the second consecutive day, 20-year old Ed Jones outclassed the Indy Lights field to take home the victor’s trophy in the Mazda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg presented by Peninsula Pipeline.

Pulling away from the start, the Dubai resident wasn’t to be denied as he pushed his Carlin Racing Mazda to a six second advantage when the checkered flag dropped on the 13-car field.

“The car was great the whole race and what won it for me was the car’s consistency,” Jones said. “I pushed hard from the beginning as I knew Jack (Harvey) was really close. I just made sure I didn’t slip my rear tires. This is the longest race I’ve ever done, but it felt like it went quicker than it did yesterday. I just got in the zone and focused on what I had to do.”

The winning car was the Toys for Boys Miami/United Rivers from Carlin Racing.

The top three on the podium was unchanged from Saturday with Jones on the top step followed by Jack Harvey and Spencer Pigot.

“I am convinced it won’t be too long before we can move up one place and win races,” Harvey said. “The first part of race I was right on Ed’s gearbox but he pulled away from me in second part of the race. You got to be satisfied with two second places in two races this weekend.”

The Brit drives for Schmidt Peterson Motorsports.

Max Chilton rebounded from yesterday’s crash to earn fourth followed by Kyle Kaiser.

Scott Hargrove was sixth and he was trailed by Matthew Brabham, Felix Serralles, Juan Piedrahita and Scott Anderson.
