John Wes Townley Cops ARCA Pole At Daytona

Daytona Beach, Fla. – John Wes Townley put the Zaxby’s Toyota on the pole for Saturday’s Lucas Oil 200 presented by MAVTV American Real. The Georgia driver zipped around the 2.5-mile oval at a speed of 181.313 miles per hour.

“My car was great,” Townley said. “The speed has been there since our test session, but when we came back down, they had made the car better. Actually, it felt a lot better.”

Venezuelan Milka Duno took the outside pole position at 180.505 mph. She drove the CANTV-Milka Way Toyota.

“For me, this is a fortunate opportunity,” she said. “My car has been good since the beginning and after they made changes, it was even better.”

Veteran driver Bobby Gerhart qualified third fastest in the MAVTV TV American Real Chevrolet. His speed was 179.842 mph.

Rising star Darrell Wallace timed fourth with a speed of 179.777 mph. He drove the Toyota Manufacturing Toyota. “After only nine laps of practice, it was a good qualifying effort for us,” he commented.

Townley, Duno and Wallace drove Toyotas fielded by Venturini Racing.

Rain washed out the bulk of Thursday’s practice session and many of the competitors took fewer than 10 laps of runs, which may well impact the 20 rookies in the race. A post-qualifying practice session will be held Saturday morning, but several teams don’t plan to participate.

SPEED will broadcast the Lucas Oil 200 live at 4:30 p.m. ET.
