Indianapolis Motor Speedway Unveils Month Of May Bronze Badge

INDIANAPOLIS, Feb. 5, 2015 – The Indianapolis Motor Speedway announced that the Bronze Badges for the 2015 Month of May will feature four-time Indianapolis 500 winner Al Unser’s 1970 winning car, the Johnny Lightning Special, in honor of the 45th anniversary of his first victory at “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing.”

In addition, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Firestone will honor four-time Indianapolis 500 winner Al Unser during the 45th anniversary of his first Indianapolis 500 victory on Saturday, May 23, 2015, at “Legends Day Honoring Al Unser presented by Firestone.”

Month of May Bronze Badge credentials offer race fans exciting, behind-the-scenes access and are now on sale at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway credential office for the second annual Angie’s List Grand Prix of Indianapolis and the 99th Running of the Indianapolis 500 Mile Race. For the first time ever, fans can also purchase the Bronze Badge online by visiting www.ims.com/bronzebadge.

Annually considered among the world’s most sought-after pieces of racing memorabilia and one of the greatest entertainment values in sports, IMS Bronze Badges provide fans with gate access and the opportunity to visit the Gasoline Alley garage area for an insider’s look as Verizon IndyCar Series drivers and their teams prepare for the Angie’s List Grand Prix of Indianapolis and the 99th Running of the Indianapolis 500 Mile Race.

Sold on a limited, first-come-first-served basis, each badge costs $125 through March 31 and will increase to $150 on April 1 while supplies last, limit four per customer. Badges will provide daily gate and garage access beginning with the Sunday, May 3, oval test featuring the IMS debut of the highly-anticipated Verizon IndyCar Series speedway aero kits.

Bronze Badge access will then be available on Thursday, May 7, and Friday, May 8, during the Grand Prix weekend; and once again from Monday, May 11, through Saturday, May 23, including pit access during the final full practice session on May 18. The credential does not provide Race Day admission for either the Grand Prix of Indianapolis on Saturday, May 9, or the Indianapolis 500 on Sunday, May 24. Certain restrictions apply.

“Bronze Badges are the ideal way for fans to get an up-close-and-personal look at all the action during the Month of May at IMS,” said J. Douglas Boles, Indianapolis Motor Speedway president. “This year, we’re making it even easier for our fans to participate in this exclusive program by allowing the badges to be purchased online.”

Junior Garage Credentials are also available (at the IMS credential office only) for $75 for ages 9 to 17, and also are not valid on race days. A parent or legal guardian and the minor must both be present and each sign the required consent and liability release forms when the credential is purchased. Junior Garage Credentials are limited to two minors per similarly credentialed adult.

Cardboard or laminate badges were utilized from the inaugural Indianapolis 500 in 1911 through 1937, and were assigned only to event participants. Beginning in 1938, more durable metal badges were used before IMS Bronze Badges made their debut in 1947 and were initially sold to the general public in the early 1990s.
