Fogarty-Gurney Capture 9th Consecutive Rolex Series Pole Position

Sonoma, CA ? Californians Jon Fogarty and Alex Gurney zoomed to their ninth consecutive Rolex Series pole position, capturing the top spot for the Armed Forces Grand-Am 250 at Infineon Raceway.

Driving the sleek Gainsco/Bob Stallings Racing Pontiac Riley, Fogarty covered the 12-turn, 2.52-mile road course at a speed of 103.058 miles per hour. ?It feels great and it feels even better to not have (championship contenders) Scott Pruett and Max Angelelli sitting beside me,? Fogarty said.

Going into Saturday?s next-to-last Rolex Series race of the season, Fogarty and Gurney are a mere four points behind leaders Pruett and Angelelli, who qualified fourth and sixth, respectively.

?Winning and going for the championship go hand-in-hand, Fogarty added. ?The best thing we can do is to keep on winning.? Fogarty and Gurney have won six times this season, including five of the last seven races. Also the pair has started in the front row in all 13 races in 2007.

Nic Jonsson blazed to the second quickest time and he will have Formula 1 ace Ricardo Zonta as a teammate. Zonta has been brought in to take the place of teenager Colin Braun, who has been suspended for one race. They will be driving the Krohn Racing Pontiac Riley.
Darren Law pushed the Brumos Porsche to the third fastest qualification time.

Pruett and teammate Memo Rojas timed fourth ahead of Rob Finlay and Michael Valiante. Memo Gidley and Angelelli will start sixth ahead of Shane Lewis and Randy Ruhlman.

Eighteen cars took a qualification run.
