“Energized” Vettel Wins Eighth Straight In Texas

AUSTIN- There was once a commercial on television for a battery product that stated that with all the energy you can just keep going and going.

On Sunday afternoon at the United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas, Sebastian Vettel did just that by not only clinching his fourth consecutive world championship in a row weeks ago in India, but adding his eighth consecutive race win of the season, a 6.2 second victory over Romain Grosjean. Mark Webber, who had fought the Lotus driver all afternoon, had to settle for third.

Afterwards, Vettel was speechless, but claimed that he likes this track.

“This is certainly a great place to race.” Vettel said.

Pole sitter Vettel took the lead right from the start of the race, but Grosjean was right with him, allowing no more than a ten second gap throughout the entire race. Webber, known for his poor starts, managed to drop to fourth by the end of the first lap. However, Vettel’s gap was short lived when Force India’s Adrien Sutil collided with Pastor Maldonado at the end of the first lap, sending the latter into the wall and becoming the only retirement in the race. This brought out the safety car, and the grid remained under caution until four laps later when Vettel resumed the lead again and was never challenged afterwards.

Last year’s winner, Lewis Hamilton, finished a lonely fourth, while Fernando Alonso passed Nico Hulkenberg with laps remaining to take fifth. Mclaren’s Sergio Perez, looking for another drive next season was seventh, while Valterri Bottas earned his first points of his rookie season, finishing in eighth. Nico Rosberg and Jenson Button took the last two point positions, respectively.

At the end, Vettel could tie the record of Alberto Ascari next week in Brazil, but the German was only going to take one thing at a time, including commenting on what happened today only.

‘We certainly had a good pace entirely in this race,” Vettel stated. “And it was great to finish on the podium.”
