Speedway, Ind., Sept. 6— Kasey Kahne, the defending Brickyard 400 winner, will not compete in the 2018 Big Machine Vodka 400 at the Brickyard due to lingering effects of heat exhaustion suffered during last weekend’s events at Darlington Raceway.

According to the Levine Family Racing team, following the Darlington race, Kahne was taken to the care center and treated for extreme heat exhaustion. Several days later, Kahne chose to consult with several physicians who recommended he sit out this weekend’s events at Indianapolis until further testing and evaluations are completed.

The Levine Family Racing team has chosen Regan Smith to drive the #95 WRL General Contractors Chevrolet at Indianapolis in place of Kahne. A timeframe for Kahne’s return to the #95 Chevrolet has not been established and the team will provide an update later concerning next weekend’s playoff opening event in Las Vegas.
